Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans. This is one of the biggest environmental problems of our time. Plastic is cheap and useful, but it takes hundreds of years to break down. When plastic gets into the ocean, it causes terrible damage to marine life. Sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and eat them. Birds and fish can also get trapped in plastic nets or rings. Furthermore, over time, large pieces of plastic break into tiny pieces called microplastics. These microplastics are eaten by fish and eventually end up in our own food. To solve this issue, we must reduce our use of single-use plastics, recycle more, and support global clean-up efforts. Saving our oceans requires action from everyone.
